The Journal was founded in 1956. Before 1998, it was out under the titles: “Vescì Akademìì navuk BSSR. Seryâ gramadskih navuk” (Proceedings of the Academy of Sciences of BSSR. Series of Social Sciences, ISSN 0321-1649), published from 1956 to 1994, and “Vescì Akademìì navuk Belarusì. Seryâ gumanitarnyh navuk” (Proceedings of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Series of Humanities, ISSN 1024-5928), published from 1994 to 1998. Since 1998 — it comes under its actual title. The Journal publishes the results of studies, conducted at The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (or other Belarusian and foreign science institutions and universities) in philosophy, social science, history, linguistics, art criticism, ethnography, folklore, literature studies, jurisprudence, and economics.
The editorial board is represented by authoritative scientists. As a rule, the Head is academician-Secretary of the Department of Humanitarian Sciences and Arts of the National Academy of Scienes of Belarus (since 2009, editor-in-chief is Corresponding Member A.A. Kovalenya).
