
Alexander Alexandrovich Kovalenya (b. 14.03.1946, Kopyl, Minsk region) - historian. Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (2021, corresponding member since 2014), Doctor of Historical Sciences (2000), Professor (2004). Honored Scientist of the Republic of Belarus (2014). Excellence in Education of the Republic of Belarus (2002).
— Since 1974 - at the Minsk State Pedagogical Institute (since 1995 - Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after Maxim Tank), since 1996 - Head of the Department.
— Since 2004 - Acting Director, in 2005–2010 - Director of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
— Since 2009 - Academician-Secretary of the Department of Humanities and Arts of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Member of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
The main areas of scientific activity are studies of the history of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War, the partisan movement and the underground struggle in the occupied territory of Belarus (1941—1944), the youth movement of the 20th century.
Author of more than 400 scientific and methodological papers, including 21 monographs, 58 textbooks, teaching aids, scientific and methodical works and programs.
Awarded with the Francisk Skaryna Medal (2006), the gold medal of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus “For Great Contribution to the Development of Science” (2016), other medals.
